Bald Eagle, Our National Bird

Picture
Our forefathers had many discussions about our National Bird.  Ben Franklin wanted our National Bird to be a wild turkey, but Congress decided, in 1782, to use the bald eagle.  The bald eagle lives a long life (30 years), is strong, and looks stately.  The bald eagle is found only in North America, so it became a symbol of our country.  It is used in the Great Seal of the United States as well as on American money.  There are not many bald eagles living in the wild today, but naturalists are working hard to help them to grow in numbers.  If you click on the bald eagle you will learn more about it and it's habitat.
